Dominique A | Artist
Dominique Ané aka Dominique A is a French songwriter and singer born 1968 in Provins, France. At around the age of 16, Ané formed his first band called John Merrick, named after the subject of the David Lynch film The Elephant Man. In the 1990s, he began to record songs as a soloist, developing his own minimalist rock style that was influenced by musicians such as Alain Bashung. His debut album Un Disque Sourd met with critical acclaim and the song, Le Courage des oiseaux, (the Courage of the Birds), was an underground hit. Subsequent albums became more experimental and his reputation and commercial success continued to grow. Dominique A collaborates regularly with other artists and on other projects. He has been one of the shaping forces of Françoiz Breut's career, writing many of her songs since her début in 1997. He has also composed several songs for Jeanna Balibar and Jane Birkin. Standout albums include La fossette, La mémoire neuve, Remué, Auguri, and the excellent live album Sur nos forces motrices.
