Doves | Artist
Doves is an English indie rock band formed 1998 in Cheshire, UK, by twin brothers Jez Williams (vocals, guitar) and Andy Williams (vocals, drums) plus Jimi Goodwin (vocals, guitar). Additionally, the band employs Martin Rebelski (keyboards) as a touring and session musician. The core trio met in high school and soon formed a band called Sub Sub. Under that name they released two singles and an album of dance oriented house music. In 1996 their recording studio was destroyed by fire and they decided to rename the band Doves and change direction to an alternative indie-rock style. The new band released three EPs which established their new sound and met with a warm critical response. Their debut album Lost Souls was released in April 2000 and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. To-date they have released five studio albums and a live album. As a band they have been inactive since 2010 since when Jimi Goodwin has released a solo album and the Williams brothers formed a new band Black Rivers which has released one self-titled album. Standout Doves albums include Lost Souls, The Last Broadcast, Some Cities and Kingdom of Rust.
