Florence + The Machine | Artist
Florence + The Machine is an English indie rock band formed 2007 in London by vocalist Florence Welch, keyboardist Isabella Summers, guitarist Rob Ackroyd, harpist Tom Monger, and a collaboration of other musicians. The band comes from Welch's teenage collaboration with her friend Isabella Summers, who performed for a time under the name Florence Robot/Isa Machine. The band's art-pop style is renowned for its dramatic and eccentric production and also Welch's powerful vocal performances. The debut studio album, Lungs was released in July 2009, and held the number-two position for its first five weeks on the UK Albums Chart. The album received high praise across the media, especially from the BBC, which promoted it on the "BBC Introducing" program. At the 2009 Brit Awards they received the "Critics' Choice" award. To-date they have released four studio albums, standouts include Lungs, Ceremonials and How Big How Blue How Beautiful. Florence + The Machine have been nominated for six Grammy Awards including Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album. Additionally, the band performed at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Concert.
