Half Man Half Biscuit is an English rock band formed 1984 in Birkenhead, Merseyside by brothers Nigel Blackwell (vocals, guitar) and Simon Blackwell (guitar), Neil Crossley (bass, guitar), Paul Wright (drums), snd David Lloyd (keyboards). Victoria Loop has played live several times with the band on tenor horn, cornet and bass guitar, she is affectionately known as 'The 5th Biscuit'. The band are known for their satirical, sardonic, and sometimes surreal songs. Their favourite two subjects are small-town English life, and Television, which they parody using extremely clever and funny lyrics. Friends Nigel Blackwell and Neil Crossley began as a duo and brought together additional members from another band Attempted Moustache. Their debut album, 1985's Back in the DHSS, topped the UK Indie Chart and reached number 60 in the UK ALbum Chart. Their first two Singles "The Trumpton Riots" and "Dickie Davies Eyes" also topped the Indie Charts, and landed them a gig at the 1986 Glastonbury Festival. The band split in 1986 but reformed in 1990, largely due to strong support given by DJ John Peel, who was a big fan. To-date the band has released 15 studio albums, standouts are Back Again in the DHSS, ACD, Voyage to the Bottom of the Road, Cammell Laird Social Club, Achtung Bono and CSI: Ambleside. The 2016 compilation And Some Fell on Stony Ground is also highly recommended. The band's excellent Eno Collaboration EP from 1996, does not involve Brian Eno but does have some twiddly bits done on a Casio player.
