Hanoi Rocks | Artist
Hanoi Rocks was a Finnish glam-rock band formed 1979 in Helsinki, Finland, by Michael Monroe (vocals), Jan Stenfors aka Nasty Suicide (guitar), Stefan Piesnack (guitar) and Peki Sirola (drums). Guitarist Andy McCoy replaced Stefan Piesnack in 1980. They were the first Finnish band to chart in the UK and they were also popular in Japan. Although musically closer to traditional rock n' roll and punk, the band have been cited as a major influence in the glam metal genre on bands such as Guns 'n' Roses, Skid Row and Poison. The band broke up in June 1985 after drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley died in a car accident during their first US tour in December 1984. Vocalist Michael Monroe and guitarist Andy McCoy reunited between 2001-2009 with a new lineup including guitarist Conny Bloom from Electric Boys, and Terry Chimes from Generation X, London Cowboys and The Clash. The band released seven studio albums, standouts include Bangkok Shocks Saigon Shakes Hanoi Rocks, Back to Mystery City, Two Steps From the Move and Street Poetry. The 1984 live album All Those Waisted Years, and the 2001 compilation Hanoi Rocks, are also recommended.
