Hot Snakes | Artist
Hot Snakes is an American post-hardcore band formed 1999 in San Diego, California, by Rick Froberg (guitar, vocals) and John Reis (guitar, melodica, vocals), with the addition of rhythm section Gar Wood (bass) and Mario Rubalcaba (drums). Reis and Froberg had previously performed together in post-hardcore bands Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu. The duo formed Hot Snakes as a side project when Reis aka Speedo formed new band Rocket from the Crypt, and Froberg moved to New York to start a career as visual artist and illustrator. The band has released four studio albums and one live album. Standouts include their first three albums Automatic Midnight, Suicide Invoice and Audit in Progress, plus the live album Thunder Down Under. The band's style has been described as "brilliant post-hardcore with some garage punk flourishes". It has also been described as "a pleasant initial beating over the head with a rusty chair followed by a smooth descent into a fire."
