Hound Dog Taylor "And the HouseRockers" (1971)
LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Alligator Records, US, 2011, Alligator 4701, 180g Vinyl, Remastered, Bonus Track
Debut album from Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers, originally released in 1971 on Alligator Records. This album contains some of the hard stompin' blues you'll ever hear. With a band comprising just two guitars and a drumset, Theodore Roosevelt Taylor aka 'Hound Dog' and his band manage to be one of the meanest and loudest blues bands out there on their debut record. Hound Dog's slide guitar is just brutal and easily the highlight of the album. The playing is prominently displayed on the album with roughly half the album being instrumental blues cuts, along with being highlights here as well. Taylor's vocals are just as raw as his slide, he sings very grimy and mean and it works wonders for his vein of blues music. If you're looking for a mean and uptempo electric blues record this is the one. An Artrockstore favourite and a blues essential. If you're not tapping your feet, you're dead.
