In Gowan Ring | Artist
In Gowan Ring is the performing name of American neofolk/psyche artist Bobin Jon Michael Eirth aka B'eirth, born 1973 in Ohio, USA. Eirth, who plays the guitar, cittern, harps, harmonica, recorder and flute, is the lead singer, lyricist and sole songwriter in the band. His music could be described as "Mystical Folk", which draws on influences such as 16th Century polyphony, English traditional folk music, psychedelia, and esoteric spiritualism. As a live performer, Eirth is commonly associated with his pear-shaped and double-necked guitars, which he designs and makes himself. As well as working under the In Gowan Ring name, Eirth also works in the ensemble Birch Book, along with Annabele (viola) and female choristers Moss and Victoria. To-date, In Gowan Ring has 13 studio albums, and several excellent live albums. Standouts include Twin Trees, Abend the Knurled Stitch O'er the Glinting Spade, and Hazel Steps Through a Weathered Home. Also excellent is the 4-volume set Exists and Entrances, which has been issued as a single volume compilation. The live album Webs Among the Din is also recommended. Under the name Birch Book, the albums Fortune & Folly and A Hand Full of Days are recommended.
