June Tabor is an English folk singer born 1947 in Warwick, UK. As a soloist and collaborator with fellow folk artists Maddy Prior, The Oyster Band and Quercus, Tabor is renowned for her superb sing voice and interpretation of traditional and contemporary folk music styles. Tabor started singing while attending Oxford university where she was singing purely traditional unaccompanied material. In 1976 she collaborated with Maddy Prior on the Silly Sisters album and tour. She and Prior released a second Silly Sisters album No More to the Dance in 1988. Tabor's debut solo album Airs and Graces from 1976, was critically well received. While never a huge commercial success, over four decades Tabor has released 14 solo albums of consistently excellent standard, working in various genres including folk, jazz and art-song, but generally with a sparse and sombre tone to it. Her 2003 album An Echo of Hooves marked a return to the traditional ballad form after concentrating on other styles for several years, and was highly acclaimed. She has also released albums with folk-rock group Oysterband, as well as with the trio Quercus. Standout albums include Airs and Graces, Abyssinians, Aqaba, Angel Tiger, Against the Streams, Aleyn and An Echo of Hooves.
