McKinley Morganfield aka Muddy Waters, was an American blues singer-songwriter and musician born 1913 in Stovall Plantation, Issaquena County Mississippi. Waters is regarded as the father of modern Chicago blues and one of the greatest blues masters who crossed over from folk blues to electric blues. Growing up he emulated the blues of local heroes Son House and Robert Johnson. In the 1950s he formed his own band with Little Walter (harp), Jimmy Rodgers (guitar), Elga Edmonds (drums) and Otis Spann (piano). Later in his career he collaborated with leading blues-rock players such as Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton and Paul Butterfield. Waters has a long catalogue of superb albums, standouts include; Folk Singer, Electric Mud, After The Rain, Live at Newport 1960, Muddy "Mississippi" Live, Fathers and Sons and Hard Again.
