Prince Rogers Nelson aka "Prince" was an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, actor and filmmaker born 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prince was one of the biggest pop music figures of the 1980s, known for his eclectic funk/synth-pop work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant fashion sense and wide vocal range. He was a gifted songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist and established his own studio and record label Paisley Park. The 1984 film Purple Rain was loosely based on Prince's early life. His peak recording years were between 1980-87 when he released six superb albums: Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World in a Day, Parade and Sign of the Times.
