Renaissance is an English progressive rock band formed 1969 in London. The original lineup was Keith Relf and Jim McCarty from The Yardbirds, along with John Hawken, Louis Cennamo and Keith's sister Jane Relf. They made one album with that lineup, 1969's Illusion, before Relf left to form the much heavier rock outfit Armageddon. Jane Relf was followed by vocalist Annie Haslam who became the mainstay of the group to the present day. The first incarnation of the band played symphonic tinged progressive rock, but they subsequently developed a more commercial 'new age' sound over time. Between 1972-77 the band released five excellent albums: Prologue, Ashes are Burning, Turn of the Cards, Scheherazade and Other Stories and Novella.
