Sam Phillips | Artist
Sam Phillips is an American singer-songwriter born 1962 in Glendale, California. She began her career in the contemporary Christian music industry but, uncomfortable with that image and industry, changed her name from Leslie to Sam and switched to a more indie folk/pop style after meeting and marrying producer T Bone Burnett. Her big breakthrough came with the highly praised album Martinis & Bikinis released in 1994. She has since received Grammy award nominations and been signed by Nonesuch Records. She also composed the scores for TV series Gilmore Girls and Bunheads. Outstanding albums include The Indescribable Wow, Martinis & Bikinis, Fan Dance, A Boot and a Shoe and the excellent compilation Solid State: Songs From the Long Play.
