Sandy Bull "Fantasias for Guitar and Banjo" (1963)

LP (NEW) - Vinyl, Alternative Fox, US, 2020, Fox039, 5060672883399, Reissue

This is the debut album by famed US Folk musician Sandy Bull, originally released in 1963 on Vanguard. Bull took an unorthodox approach to stringed instruments, influenced by Nubian Oud master Hamza El Din. Fantasias for Guitar and Banjo sees him backed by jazz drummer Billy Higgins, and features the epic track "Blend" which is influenced by eastern and middle-eastern musical forms. The music displays Bull's lightning fast picking style on material from America's South, plus treatments of the medieval classic "Non Nobis Domine" and "Carmina Burana". This album is a cult classic in folk circles.
