Spirogyra was a British progressive folk band formed 1967 in Bolton, Lancashire by original duo Martin Cockerham and Mark Francis. The band was soon expanded to include singer Barbara Gaskin, Steve Borrill (bass) and Julian Cusack (violin). They played a blend of psych/prog infused folk music and recorded three studio albums. Dave Mattacks of Fairport Convention joined in the studio to provide drums and percussion on their recordings. The reformed band released several late albums but these aren't on par with the three early studio albums: St. Radiguns, Old Boot Wine and Bells Boots and Shambles, from their classic period 1971-1973. St. Radiguns is a standout album.
