Annie Erin Clark aka St. Vincent is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born 1982 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ahe is known for her innovative art-rock music, captivating performances, and unique artistic vision. Clark began playing the guitar at the age of 12 and quickly developed a deep passion for the instrument. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including rock, jazz, and classical music, she honed her skills and crafted her own unique sound. St. Vincent's music is characterized by its intricate arrangements, complex melodies, and thought-provoking lyrics. Her songs often explore themes of identity, love, and the human experience, reflecting her introspective nature. With her powerful voice and virtuosic guitar playing, she creates a sonic landscape that is both mesmerizing and challenging, drawing listeners in with its raw emotion and energy. Before achieving success as St Vincent, Clark played guitar for the neo-Psych ensemble Polyphonic Spree. She also released the EP Ratsliveonnoevilstar in 2003, and she was a member of Sufjan Stevens' touring band in 2006. She was also briefly in a noise rock band called the Skull Fuckers. In 2006, she began recording a studio album under the stage name St. Vincent. In an interview on The Colbert Report, she said that she took her moniker from a line in a Nick Cave song that referred to the hospital where Dylan Thomas died. In June 2012, "Who" the first single from her collaboration with David Byrne, formerly of Talking Heads, was released. The single came from their album Love This Giant, which was released September 2012, then the following year they released the EP Brass Tactics. Over the course of her career, St. Vincent has made several critically acclaimed albums, including Marry Me (2007), Actor (2009), Strange Mercy (2011), St Vincent (2014), Daddy's Home (2021), and her excellent latest release All Born Screaming (2024). She constantly pushes the boundaries of music, incorporating elements of electronica, avant-garde, and performance art into her work. Her live performances feature elaborate costumes, multimedia visuals, and choreographed dance routines that blur the line between music and performance art. Beyond her music, St. Vincent is also known for her keen sense of style and fashion. With her bold, avant-garde aesthetic and gender-bending looks, she has become a fashion icon in her own right, gracing the covers of magazines and walking the red carpet at major events. In May 2010, Clark's father was convicted of conspiracy, securities fraud, and money laundering, and subsequently imprisoned. The album Daddy's Home was in part inspired by her father's eventual release.
