Telephone | Artist
Téléphone was a French rock band formed 1976 in Paris by Jean-Louis Aubert (vocals, guitar), Louis Bertignac (guitar), Corine Marienneau (bass) and Richard Kolinka (drums). They were one of the biggest French rock bands of the late '70s to early '80s period, opening shows for The Rolling Stones in France, Canada, the US and Japan. The band split in 1986 and to date they've sold around 10 million albums, a record still unbeaten for a French rock band. The band borrowed the look and attitude of punk, but were essentially a garage-rock band who were accomplished musicians and produced many excellent singles which were hugely popular to French speaking audiences. Their second album Crache ton venin was produced by the UK's Martin Rushent who also produced the Buzzcocks, XTC and the Stranglers. Standout albums include Téléphone, Crache ton venin and the live album Le live. Bassist Corine Marienneau went on to form a new band The Visitors, which included ex-Clash drummer Topper Headon, and later became a film actress.
