The Flesh Eaters is an American punk rock and Rockabilly band, formed 1977 in Los Angeles, California by founding member Chris Desjardins (vocals). In 1977 Chris D, a poet and writer for Slash magazine, brought together friends from bands on the LA punk scene including John Doe (bass) and DJ Bonebrake (drums) from X, Dave Alvin (guitar) and Steve Berlin (saxophone) from The Blasters, and Stan Ridgeway (guitar) from Wall of Voodoo. The band's unique sound, an amalgam of punk rock, road-house blues, rockabilly, and touches of jazz, was distinctive for its apocalyptic film noir lyricism and often for its sophisticated arrangements. Desjardins's poetry has been described as "wonderful bleeding collages of B-movie dementia, street crime, Mexican Catholicism and Dionysian punk poetics". They made ten studio recordings with changes in guest players but with Chris D playing on every album and producing. Their debut EP The Flesh Eaters from 1978 is regarded as a classic of early LA Punk, and their first four Album releases: No Questions Asked, A Minute to Pray a Second to Die, Forever Came Today and A Hard Road to Follow, are outstanding. Chris D also produced albums for The Gun Club, The Dream Syndicate, The Misfits and The Germs.
