James Timothy Hardin was an American folk musician and composer born 1941 in Eugene Oregon. He was a gifted songwriter and performer but he is most remembered for writing the songs "If I Were a Carpenter" and "Reason to Believe" which have been covered by many big name artists. He played at Woodstock but his performance was not included in the original recording or the documentary movie. Hardin died at the age of 39 of a Heroin overdose. His first three albums; Tim Hardin 1, Tim Hardin 2 and Tim Hardin 3: Live in Concert, are classics of the late 60's contemporary folk genre.
