Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou aka Vangelis is a Greek composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz, and orchestral music born 1943 in Agria, Greece. Between 1967-1972 Vangelis along with Demis Roussos, Lucas Sideris and Argyris Koulouris were members of Aphrodites Child, one of the leading Prog rock bands of the time. Vangelis pursued a solo career and became one of Greece's foremost musicians, particularly for his superb film soundtracks. He also had a long standing collaboration with Irene Papas. Outstanding albums include L'apocalypse des animaux, Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire and 1492: Conquest of Paradise.
