Industrial, experimental and always exciting, the clipping boys deliver again.
There are no contemporaries to clipping. There is no other act working today that has the streak the trio have managed to build over the last 10 years. Every record from the s/t to ‘Splendour and Misery’ to the horror brother/sister set from 2019/2020. Even the remix records and EP’s (see ‘Wriggle’)
And that streak is continued on ‘Dead Channel Sky’. It feels at home in the clipping canon, but this one sees the dance elements thrown in. The easiest comparison would be Nine Inch Nails in how it wants to disturb and as much as it wants to move.
But don't let that distract from the immense verbal ability of Daveed Diggs who is one of the best rappers alive, and brings bars here from front to back as what can be expected from a master.
Hutson and Snipes deliver signature analog hell on their selection of 808’s synths to build their club nightmare. Highlights include ‘Dominator’, ‘ Run It’, ‘Dodger’ and ‘Keep Pushing’.
It’s an essential listen for the fans. If you know clipping, you’re in for a sure thing. The beauty of this one is also that the dance elements make it the most approachable clipping it has ever been. But that isn’t at the expense of it being abrasive, confronting or just downright loud. Beginners beware.
