The Kronos Quartet is an American string quartet based in San Francisco founded 1973 in Seattle, Washington by David Harrington. The longest-serving lineup was Harrington, John Sherba, Hank Dutt and Joan Jeanrenault. Sunny Yang has since replaced Jeanrenault on Cello. The quartet specialises in modern classical music and adaptations for strings of non-classical works. They have been described by some critics as the most famous new music group in the world. Outstanding albums include Mishima Soundtrack, Different Trains, Black Angels, Black Angels, Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass and Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack.
