Elizabeth Woolridge Grant aka Lana Del Rey is an American Singer-Songwriter born 1984 in Manhattan, New York City. Her music is layered with dense, romantic instrumentals composed of throwback lounge singer Jazz, about subjects such as romance, scandal, commercialism and contemporary feminine politics. Some music critics have dubbed her music style as "Hollywood sadcore". After an unremarkable early album, it was her 2011 album release Born to Die, containing melancholy hits such as "Video Games" and the title track, which broke her through to mainstream commercial success. Her follow up album Ultraviolence, produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, was a huge success, and this was followed by the comparatively lacklustre Honeymoon in 2015, which incorporated electronic elements into the sound mix. In the meantime, she prominently collaborated with breakthrough RnB superstar The Weeknd on his 2015 and 2016 efforts, alongside touring with Courtney Love and Grimes to upscale her concert ensembles. In 2019 Del Rey paired with producer/songwriter of Bleachers and Fun fame, Jack Antonoff, to create her best work to-date, the critically acclaimed Norman Fucking Rockwell!, which was later rename NFR! by her record company. NME awarded the album five out of five stars and Rolling Stone magazine lauded the album, writing "Norman Fucking Rockwell is even more massive and majestic than everyone hoped it would be. Lana turns her fifth and finest album into a tour of sordid American dreams, going deep cover in all our nation's most twisted fantasies of glamour and danger". The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards, Album of the Year and Song of the Year for its title track. To-date, Del Rey has released six studio albums and has attained an almost cult following alongside critical and commercial success. Del Rey is also active in film. In November 2015 she executive produced a short film "Hi How Are You Daniel Johnston", documenting the life of the singer-songwriter. For the film, she covered Johnston's song "Some Things Last a Long Time". In November 2015, Del Rey received the Trailblazer Award at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony and won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Alternative album.
