Soft Machine is an English Rock-Jazz band formed 1966 in Canterbury, UK. Named after the novel by William S. Burroughs, Soft Machine's innovative fusion of jazz and Prog-rock was central to the 'Canterbury Scene' genre. The core members including Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, Daevid Allen and Hugh Hopper were highly skilled musician and all had successful solo careers. Third is their masterpiece and other outstanding albums include The Soft Machine, Volume Two, Six and The Peel Sessions.
