Sun Dial is a British psychedelic rock band formed 1990 in London by Gary Ramon (guitar, vocals), Anthony Clough (bass, keyboards) and David Morgan (drums, percussion). Ramon disbanded his first band The Modern Art to form Sun Dial, with a view to leading a crack live band to play 1960's style psychedelic rock influenced by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Stooges, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. The initial three piece unit recorded one superb album Other Way Out before leader Ramon reshuffled the lineup constantly, on an album-by-album basis, to the present day. The debut album was near-universally praised in the independent music press, winning awards and accolades, however it didn't move mainstream critics and radio stations. Subsequent albums have branched out to include space rock, acid rock and stoner rock styles. Their music has been compared to, influenced, or praised by prominent artists such as Monster Magnet, Nirvana, Spiritualized and Spacemen 3. To-date they have released nine studio albums plus several excellent live albums. Standouts include Other Way Out, Return Journey, Acid Yantra, Zen For Sale and Drug Live. Ramon has also released two excellent solo albums of ambient electronica and krautrock, named Quad 1 and Quad 2. He has also collaborated with the bands Coil and Current 93.
