The Dillinger Escape Plan was an American metalcore band formed 1997 in Morris Plains, New Jersey by bassist Adam Doll, lead singer Dimitri Minakakis, drummer Chris Pennie and guitarist Ben Weinman. The band's sound was rooted in extreme metal and post-hardcore, with influences from progressive rock, electronic music and jazz fusion. The band members had a mutual admiration for the music of earlier progressive bands such as King Crimson, Cynic, Meshuggah and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Their debut album Calculating Infinity, released in 1999, was regarded by many as a masterpiece, and by many others as random self-indulgent garbage. But it's generally accepted that there's a great deal of musical creativity under the music's abrasive surface. DEP released six consistently good albums before deciding to disband in 2017. Standout releases include Calculating Infinity, Miss Machine, Ire Works, One of us is the Killer and Dissociation.
