Xavier Rudd is an Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born 1978 in Torquay, Victoria. Rudd plays indie folk infused with touches of reggae, blues and world music styles. Typically Rudd's songs incorporate socially conscious themes, such as spirituality, humanity, environmentalism and the rights of Indigenous Australians. Early in his career he drew inspiration from artists such as Leo Kottke, Ben Harper, Natalie Merchant and multi-instrumentalist David Lindley, as well as music from diverse sources, such as Hawaiian and Native American music. On his recordings Rudd plays most of the instruments including didgeridoos, slide guitars, stomp boxes, djembe drums, slit drums, and the harmonica. In his live-show, Rudd came to be renowned for his 'one man band' performance. To-date Rudd has released 10 studio albums, standouts include To Let (2002), Solace (2004), Food in the Belly (2005) and Dark shades of Blue (2008).
