Elder is an American four-piece heavy metal band formed 2005 in Boston, Massachusetts, by frontman Nick DiSalvo (guitar, vocals, keyboards), drummer Matt Couto, bassist Jack Donovan and guitarist/keyboardist Mike Risberg. Georg Edert took over the drum seat in 2019. The band's heavy stoner psych-rock sound was described by one reviewer as "Loud, thick and heavy slabs of guitar riffs right into your ear holes, and it feels so good to listen to it. The vocals are a bit too generic stoner rock sounding, but thankfully they are sparse, and they do still add some variety and melody to the entire thing". The band's first album was a split release with Queen Elephantine in 2006. They have to-date released seven more studio albums under their own name. The first to attract significant attention was 2011's excellent Dead Roots Stirring. Other standouts include Elder (2009), Lore (2015), Reflections on a Floating World (2017), the EP Spires Burn/Release (2012), and the 2022 album Innate Passage.
