Karin Elisabeth Dreijer aka Fever Ray is a Swedish singer-songwriter and record producer born 1975 in Gothenburg. Before focussing on a solo career, Dreijer was one half of the electronic music duo the Knife, formed with xer brother Olof Dreijer, and was previously the vocalist and guitarist of the alternative rock band Honey Is Cool. Dreijer's vocal style is notable for its shrill and deep tones, and the use of multi-tracked vocals, with different pitch-shifting technology on each track, creating an intricate and mysterious effect. Visually, Xe employs the use of masks, face and body paint, intricate costumes, and other theatrical elements in photo shoots, videos and live performances. The Knife duo released six studio albums, including the superb Silent Shout, from 2006, and their last album Shaking the Habitual. Fever Ray has released to-date two studio albums, a remix album, and two live albums. Standouts include Fever Ray, Plunge and Live at Luleå. The artist prefers the use of the gender neutral pronoun "Xe" neologism.
