HTRK is an Australian minimal wave band formed 2003 in Melbourne by Nigel Yang (guitar, synthesiser, programming), Jonnine Standish (vocals, percussion) and Sean Stewart (bass, programming). The band relocated to London in 2010 where their live shows caught the attention of ex Birthday Party and Bad Seed Rowland S. Howard. Howard introduced them to Australian producer Lindsay Gravina, who invited them to record their debut album Marry Me Tonight at Gravina's Birdland Studios. Howard also produced the album and added guitar parts. After a delayed release the album found critical favour from the UK press, scoring 8 out of 10 in an NME review. Tragically, Sean Stewart committed suicide in 2010 and Yang and Standish carried on as a duo since then. As their popularity grew they landed UK and European performing tours playing on the bill with names like Liars, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Horrors and Fuck Buttons. Their sound has been described as "sonorous, stentorian vocals that wouldn't seem out of place on a Joy Division or Sisters of Mercy album, combined with an ice cold minimal synth backdrop, HTRK's sound is a shimmering, gorgeous diamond". To-date the band has released four studio albums, all are highly recommended: Marry me Tonight, Work (Work, Work), Psychic 9-5 Club and Venus in Leo.
