Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player was Elton John's Sixth studio album, released in 1973. Sandwiched between the earlier Honky Château and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, the album which would see the artist achieve global pop stardom, Don't Shoot Me.. marked the transition from sensitive singer-songwriter Elton, to pop-star Elton. On the back of the singles "Daniel" and "Crocodile Rock" this became one of the most popular and highest selling albums of the '70s decade - and with good reason. The album is brim full of catchy upbeat fun songs, engaging melodies, energetic playing and singing from Elton, and superb backing from the ever trusty Dee Murray and Nigel Olsen. This album also saw an increased involvement from engineering maestro Ken Scott, who makes the whole thing sound great and contributed ARP synthesiser parts. This is a perennially great pop-rock album from a master of his craft at the peak of his career.
