The Dugites (named after a highly venomous snake) was an Australian new-wave band formed 1970 in Perth, Western Australia by Lynda Nutter (Vocals), Peter Crosbie (keyboards), Gunther Burghoffer (guitar), Phillip Bailey (bass) and Clarence Bailey (drums). They worked frequently with Dave Warner and The Suburbs. Paul Noonan left The Suburbs to join The Dugites in 1980 and Andrew Pendlebury from The Sports joined in 1982. Their commercial peak came with the hit single "In Your Car" and they opened for Elton John for a few shows. The band combined elements of power pop, new wave and electronics, creating songs with strong melodies, hooks and a smattering of politics. Their three studio albums are outstanding: The Dugites, West of the World and Cut the Talking.
