This is the quality of work to be expected from legends, and Little Simz is carving her way into history with 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert'.
This serves as the followup to the incredible 2018 effort, ‘GREY Area’ which showed Simz to be versatile, soulful and hard-hitting. Conceptually rich and bold production has always been present on her records, but here it is taken to new heights with grander orchestrations and more scope and layers to the songs.
The opener, ‘Introvert’, has it all. With big brass horns and fiery, passionate delivery, it sets the tone for the outright masterwork that SIMBI is. From the groove-driven ‘Point and Kill’ with Obongjayar and ‘Woman’ with previous collaborator, Cleo, the features bring shine and depth to already colourful ventures into grime and R&B.
This is all before the narrative masterfully presented which describes a journey of self-discovery whilst navigating contemporary social climates. An immediate comparison would be ‘Black On Both Sides’ or ’To Pimp A Butterfly’.
It’s one for the history books, and we wish we sang its praises sooner.
Essential for all music fans.
